Small service, full panel, and an air conditioner that was added later. The classic Kennewick upgrade candidate.
Panel upgrades come up constantly in the older Kennewick neighborhoods near Clearwater Avenue and Washington Street. If your breakers are full, your service is 100 amps, or a heat pump, shop or EV charger is coming, we look at the panel, run the load calculation, and give you a written price before anything starts.

These panels are common in older Kennewick homes and have a documented history of breakers that fail to trip. Replacement, not repair.
Each one is a big continuous load. On a 100 amp service, the panel usually has to go first.
The older half of Kennewick was built in the fifties, sixties and seventies, when a 100 amp service and a 20 space panel covered a house. Those homes now carry central air, an electric range, an electric dryer, a shop in the garage and often a hot tub. The panel did not grow with the house. Full panels, double-tapped breakers, tandem breakers where they are not allowed, and brands like Federal Pacific and Zinsco that stopped being made decades ago all show up regularly in west Kennewick.
The newer south end is a different problem. Southridge and Canyon Lakes homes usually have 200 amps already, but builders fill the panel with small circuits and leave no room. That is often a sub panel job rather than a service upgrade, and it costs a lot less. We tell you which one you actually need.
A service upgrade in Kennewick means three parties: us, Washington Labor and Industries for the permit and inspection, and Benton PUD for the disconnect and reconnect at the meter. We schedule all of it. On the day, the power is off for the working hours it takes to swap the panel, typically a single day for a standard 100 to 200 amp change out. You are told the window in advance and we do not leave you dark overnight.
The inspection happens after the work, and the utility reconnects after the inspection where that is how the jurisdiction runs it. We have done this enough times in Kennewick to know the sequence, and we build the schedule around it so you are not waiting on a callback.
The service size and conductor condition. The meter base and mast, because a rotted mast or an undersized meter base changes the scope. The grounding electrode system, which on older Kennewick homes is often a single rod or a water pipe that no longer qualifies. The existing circuits, so nothing gets abandoned or mislabeled. Then the load calculation, so the new service is sized for what the house actually runs. All of that goes into a written quote you approve before we start.
We work all over Kennewick, from the older neighborhoods to the newest subdivisions. These are the areas we are in most weeks. If yours is not listed, call anyway. If it is in Benton County, we cover it.
Kyle walks the panel, meter base, and grounding, runs a load calculation, and hands you a written price. The visit costs nothing and there is no pressure to book on the spot.
We file the electrical permit with L&I or the City of Richland and set the disconnect and reconnect with your utility so the outage lands on a day that works for your household.
Power comes off, the old panel and service conductors come out, the new panel goes in, and every circuit is landed and torqued to the manufacturer specification. Grounding and bonding are brought current.
Every circuit gets labeled by room and use, the inspector signs off, and Kyle opens the panel with you and explains what changed before he leaves.
